This is an altered image. The original image of Azam Khan was taken in Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram hospital on June 1 this year during a courtesy visit by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Following the demise of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, some of his supporters are sharing a photograph of bald Azam Khan. While sharing the image, some users are claiming that Azam Khan shaved off his hair as per Hindu traditions after Mulayam Singh Yadav's death.
The image shows Khan supposedly in hospital attire with a saline bottle hanging to the left and marks of injected channels in his hand. This image was shared with captions like, "True friend. Those who fight over religion see what a true friend did for his lost friend." An archived version can be seen here.
AFWA's investigation has found that the image is digitally altered. In the original image, Azam had his hair on when Akhilesh Yadav visited him in a hospital last June.
AFWA probe
A search for the viral image through Google Lens led us to a web story uploaded by UP Tak. A similar photograph of Khan was seen there, but with his head full of his signature golden hair. The caption noted this as a courtesy meeting between SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Azam Khan in Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram hospital during Khan's medical check-up.
It further mentioned that the meeting between the SP leaders lasted for two hours. Notably, it was the first time Akhilesh had called upon Khan since his release from jail. A comparison between both images makes it easy to understand how the picture was manipulated.
With the help of these, a subsequent refined search led to a The Hindu report from June 01, 2022, with a full-frame photograph of Azam Khan with Akhilesh Yadav in the Delhi hospital.
Akhilesh Yadav himself tweeted these photographs from his official handle on June 1 alongside a caption that paid greetings and wished Azam Khan a speedy recovery, making it clear that the hair from Khan's head was removed by altering the original image.
Thus, it is evident that the morphed photo of bald Azam Khan was shared with a false claim.
