Quick Take
Several social media users have shared a video of a Canadian doctor claiming Covid vaccines cause turbo cancer. We fact-checked and found the claim to be Mostly False.
The Claim
Dr. Charles Hoffe, a family physician claimed in a BITCHUTE video that COVID-19 vaccines cause aggressive new cancers and increase flare-ups in remission from the disease.
To establish his claim, Dr. Hoffe talked about a 61-year-old patient who was diagnosed with cancer a year after receiving his second Covid vaccine dose.
Dr. Hoffe claimed ‘People who had previous cancers, which were in remission, are flaring up since their shots because (of) the damage to their immune system by the COVID shots. But with new cancers being diagnosed, the tumors are bigger than ever. They seem to grow very aggressively, spread very aggressively, and be very resistant to treatment, so this is being nicknamed turbo cancer.’

Fact Check
Is there a disease such as ‘turbo cancer’?
No. No such disease named turbo cancer exists in science. We haven’t been able to ascertain who coined the term ‘turbo cancer’ with respect to COVID-19 vaccines. But we found a few websites that show Dr. Hoffe is not the only person who has used the term turbo cancer with Covid vaccines. On a website, the term was sarcastically used by a commentator in response to a post about the impending EUA for the Pfizer vaccine.
Other web pages informed that Dr. Ute Krueger, pathologist, and Dr. Ryan Cole, Pathologist have also used the term.
From this evidence, it is clear that these doctors are talking about cancer in the era of Covid vaccines. According to these doctors, there is an increase in the number of cancers that are larger in size and growing more rapidly since the initial diagnosis.
However, it is not known whether Covid vaccines are responsible for a spike in cancer cases. Scant evidence such as a case report published in 2021 that studied only one person to claim Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a type of cancer that may grow after taking the Covid vaccine. We need more evidence to understand whether Covid vaccine speeding up cancer progression. A similar case report published in BMJ journal studied only one patient to hypothesize Covid vaccines are increasing cancer cases.
Research published in 2021 informs that the benefit of vaccination outweighs the risks. However, there is a lack of vaccine efficacy data in cancer patients, the durability of vaccine protection compares to the general population, immune response (humoral and cellular) among cancer patients, and cancer treatment modalities and their interaction with vaccine immunogenicity.
Dr. Sarthak Moharir, Radiation Oncologist at HCG Cancer Centre in Vadodara, Gujarat informed that “Dr. Hoffe makes these claims but does not show any data to back them up. Claims based on Anecdotal evidence should never be trusted as they’re not backed by science.”
Dr. Moharir further said, ‘The reality is that during the Covid pandemic a lot of cancer patients were not able to get proper treatment on time because of fear of getting infected and due to elective surgeries being delayed. These patients ended up with the advanced disease. Some other patients got diagnosed incidentally because their tumor was discovered in the early stages of the disease because of all the screening HRCT thoraxes being done in India. What we know is that Dr. Hoffe is currently facing disciplinary action because of the wild unsubstantiated claims he has shared without any scientific backing.”
We even found evidence that shows these doctors have been under investigation for alleged misconduct related to spreading false information about COVID-19 measures and vaccines. Apart from this, the internet is abuzz with Covid-19 vaccine related misinformation such as COVID-19 vaccine shorten life span, the vaccines contain 99% graphene oxide, or mercury in vaccines is killing humans.
