  • Fact Check: Fans DID NOT sing in support of Palestine during FIFA World Cup, this clip is from Morocco After the 2022 FIFA World Cup match kickstarted in Qatar, a video has been making the rounds on social media of thousands of people in a stadium singing in support of Palestine, while waving Palestinian flags and banners. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This is a 2019 video from Morocco. It shows the supporters of FC Raja Casablanca expressing their support for the Palestinian cause during a match against Palestine’s Hilal Al-Qud Ever since the kick-off of the 2022 FIFA World Cup match in Qatar, social media has been awash with photos and videos from the tournament. One such video allegedly shows thousands of people in a stadium singing in support of Palestine, while waving Palestinian flags and banners. The archived versions of similar posts can be seen here and here. AFWA’s investigation, however, found that this video is from the 2019 Arab Club Champions Cup in Morocco — and definitely not the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. AFWA PROBE We ran a reverse search of the viral video’s keyframes and found the same video and longer versions of it uploaded to YouTube and Facebook in 2019. This confirms that the viral video is not from the ongoing FIFA World Cup. Per the description of these videos, it shows supporters of Raja Casablanca, a football club based in Casablanca, Morocco, singing in support of Palestine during a match against the Palestinian club Hilal Al-Quds. We also found multiple media reports about Raja Casablanca fans expressing solidarity with Palestinians against the numerous human rights violations in the country. According to a report by Morocco World News, the video is from Casablanca’s Mohammed V stadium. Fans sang in solidarity with Palestine during a match that was held as part of the Mohammed VI Arab Champions Cup (also known as the Arab Club Champions Cup) on September 23, 2019. The banner of Ultras Eagles, a fan club of Raja Casablanca can also be seen in the viral video. A comparison between the viral videos and photos of Morocco’s Mohammed V Stadium available on Google Maps confirms that the video is indeed from the same stadium. It is hence clear that the video in question is old and from a football match in Morocco. It is not related to the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
