| - In late January 2025, social media users claimed U.S. President Donald Trump's White House digital team had customized an error message on "The Office of Kamala D. Harris" website belonging to the former vice president. The 404 error message allegedly said "this page is unburdened by what has been," a reference to a famous Harris catchphrase often mocked by her opponents and beloved by her supporters.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was among those spreading the rumor on X, where his post had amassed more than 3.2 million views as of this writing (archived).
He wrote: "The White House digital team deserves an award for what they have been pulling off."
Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., also circulated the claim (archived). His post had garnered more than 33.2 million views at the time of publication, partly because it was reposted (archived) by X owner and Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) appointee Elon Musk:

One X user even directly credited Trump's deputy communications director Kaelan Dorr with the update.
The website, kamalaharris.com, is functional as of this writing; however, an error page is still live (archived) and visitors are redirected to it if the website's URL is mistyped. The error page reads: "404. This page is unburdened by what has been. You have reached a broken link. Please return to the home page or use the navigation above."
However, the claim that Trump's administration had anything to do with the customized error message is false.
The Harris office website is not hosted on the White House website, nor owned or operated by the White House. Due to federal guidelines, websites representing government entities generally use a .gov domain, whereas the Harris website uses a .com domain.
A search for "Kamala Harris" on the White House website, under Trump's administration, did not lead to the 404 error page. In fact, the search returned no results at the time of publication. The archived White House website for former President Joe Biden and Harris used a different error page for the former vice president that simply said: "404 / PAGE NOT FOUND."
Furthermore, in August 2024, when kamalaharris.com redirected to Harris' presidential campaign page, the 404 error page said "This page exists in the context of all that came before it," another reference to a Harris catchphrase. This suggests her team has a history of using Harris quotes and catchphrases for the 404 error page.

The "Terms and Conditions" page states that the "site is operated by The Office of Kamala D. Harris."
Snopes contacted Harris' web development team for comment and we will update this story if they reply.
Harris' former official website kamalaharris.org — used during her 2016 presidential campaign, as recorded by the Library of Congress — now directs users to kamalaharris.com, confirming that kamalaharris.com is an official website owned and run by Harris' team post-vice presidency.
