  • Last Updated on August 8, 2024 by Nivedita Quick Take A social media post claims that you can get rid of pimples using Ice Therapy. We fact-checked and found this claim to be Mostly False. The Claim A video on social media states “Today I’ll show how to get rid of pimples using one of my favorite home remedies the Ice Therapy to Reduce Acne! This technique is easy and quite simple, all you do is wash your face first, grab one ice cube and then rub it all over your face in a circular motion.” Fact Check Can Ice Therapy treat acne or pimples? Not exactly. Acne can be caused by various factors such as genetics, hormonal imbalance, unavoidable sun exposure, air pollution, unhealthy eating habits, and stress to mention a few. Even though ice can temporarily decrease swelling and redness, making the pimple less noticeable, it cannot treat the underlying cause, especially if the acne is caused due to hormonal imbalance. Can you get rid of pimples using Ice Therapy? Not exactly. There’s no scientific evidence to indicate that ice alone is an effective treatment for pimples. While ice alone may not cure a pimple, it can offer temporary pain relief for severely inflamed pimples because of its numbing effect. Dr. Smriti Naswa, Consultant Clinical, Pediatric & Cosmetic Dermatologist, Fortis Hospital Mulund Mumbai, says, “Ice is a good method to relieve inflamed skin, but it doesn’t dry or cure a pimple. You must consult a dermatologist if you are having persistent acne problems as acne can sometimes be painful and an indication of an underlying problem.” Also, since ice can act as a vasoconstrictor, it constricts your blood vessels and soothes inflammation, and reduces puffiness. Remember, you cannot treat the underlying cause of acne with ice alone. People who experience severe or persistent inflammatory acne may want to consider speaking with their doctor or a dermatologist. In one of the posts, of social media it is shared that a concoction of curd and rose water can have a number of benefits on the skin, such as skin whitening, eliminating pimples and spots.
