Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav is pitted against Bhojpuri actor Dinesh Lal Yadav alias Nirahua from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. Azamgarh goes to polls in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha election on May 12. Meanwhile, many pro-BJP Facebook pages have gone on an overdrive sharing pictures of huge crowds claiming them to be from rallies in Azamgarh. India Today's Anti Fake News Room (AFWA) has found that these pictures are not from Azamgarh but Odisha and was taken when the election was not even announced. On May 2, Facebook page 'Amit Shah Fans Team' uploaded two pictures of large crowds and captioned them "BJP's rally #Azamgarh". This post has been shared by 224 Facebook users till the time of filing this story. The archived version of this post can be seen here. Similarly, on May 1, Facebook page 'Corruption free Himachal Pradesh' uploaded these very photos with the same claim. This post has been shared by 23 Facebook users till the time of filing this story. The archived version of the post can be seen here. AFWA did a reverse search of the photos and found that they are actually from January 5 when the general elections were not even announced. These pictures were in fact tweeted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 5. The tweet can be seen here. PM Modi had gone to Baripada in Odisha to address a rally on that day.
