Fact :The image is from the year 2015, it is not a recent one.
Palestinian militant group Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, launched an unprecedented attack on Israel. Israel reciprocated by attacking several areas in the Gaza strip through airstrikes. This operation by Palestinian militants is called ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Flood’, which was a surprise military offensive by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Hamas's al-Qassam Brigades announced that they had captured Israeli soldiers and civilians. Many countries chose to support Israel, while a few others have not declared sides in the war.
Several social media users are sharing an image of Flame Towers in Baku, Azerbaijan illuminated and having an Israeli flag on them with the claim that they were lit up in solidarity with the country Israel. The users shared the image with the caption “Thank you Azerbaijan - Israeli flag on buildings in the capital of Baku as a sign of solidarity.”
Fact Check:
The claim is Misleading. The flame towers in Baku are not illuminated in solidarity with Israel. The image is an old one from the year 2015.
When we searched using Google reverse image search, we found a post published in 2021 on vk.com.
When searched further, we found another tweet from June 2015, where the image was shared with the caption “Israeli Flag displayed on Flame Towers in #Baku honoring part. of Team Israel at @BakuGames2015 in #Azerbaijan
A Facebook page called Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles also shared the image in June 2015 with the caption “Israeli Flag displayed on Flame Towers in #Baku honoring participation of Team Israel at European Games in #Azerbaijan”
A YouTube video shared in June 2015, shows Flame Towers, Baku lit up with all the European flags. According to the description, the video was taken in June 2015, when first European games took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Therefore, the image showing Flame towers lit up with Israeli flag is not recent but an old image from the year 2015. The claim is Misleading.
