  • Fact Check: These pictures of Fauci's arrest are AI-generated, technology still far from perfection Fauci has not been arrested as believed by many netizens. These images are generated online using AI tools. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check These are not real images but are AI-generated. Lately, there has been a surge in AI-generated images depicting fabricated scenes of the arrest of notable personalities. Pictures of Donald's arrest being arrested caused a massive stir online. This time pictures of the arrest of Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have taken the online world by storm. These AI-generated images show Fauci in various situations–from being carried away by the force, to being forcibly held. A Twitter user shared these images of imaginary scenes on social media and wrote, "Who wants to see it?". While another user wrote, "Fauci Arrested in New York it looks like! DUH WINNING! #Trump2024." The archived version of the tweet can be seen here. We found that Fauci has not been arrested, and these images are generated online using AI tools. AFWA Probe When such a high-profile personality gets arrested, it's not very difficult to verify the event, as the news would surface all over social media and news portals as well. We used a keyword search to find news reports about Fauci's arrest, if at all it's been made. However, no results were returned. Flaws in AI-generated images AI is still in its nascent stage and is constantly advancing, that's why images generated using this technology are often replete with flaws. Having observed many AI-generated images before, we noticed a few anomalies in these pictures too. In the top left picture, the policeman holding Fauci has five fingers, apart from the thumb which isn't visible. Similarly, in the upper right photo, the policewoman has a right hand wrongfully attached to her left arm. Then, we compared the faces of real Fauci and the ones visible in the AI-generated images. We found them to be considerably different. It's not very difficult to spot an AI image. All it takes is a little perseverance and eagle eyes.
