However, it is old and took place during the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament of 2019. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video does show Afghanistan and Pakistan cricket fans clashing. However, it is old and took place during the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament of 2019. A video of a brawl inside a cricket stadium that’s been widely shared recently supposedly shows violence following the recent Afghanistan-Pakistan Super 4 match of the Asia Cup. In the video, people were seen shouting, punching, and hurling chairs at one another. A few of those involved in the violence appeared to be wearing Pakistani cricket jerseys and holding Pakistani flags. Security personnel could be seen attempting to control the situation. People shared the video with captions like, “Pakistan fans vs Afghanistan fans fighting in Dubai. Asia Cup 2022.” AFWA’s investigation found that this clash took place between Afghanistan and Pakistan supporters during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. AFWA Probe We found that many people had shared the same video in 2019, proving that it definitely was not recent. A YouTuber had captioned one such video as, “Fight during Pakistan vs Afghanistan match 29 June 2019 ICC world cup.” Subsequently, we found a June 2019 report by The Sun, that said after Pakistan defeated Afghanistan in a Cricket World Cup match, clashes erupted between fans. We compared the viral video with the video shared by The Sun report and found striking similarities between the two. The match where this clash happened took place on June 29, 2019, in the Headingley stadium in Leeds, England. And the brawl was reported by several Indian media outlets. Reportedly, fans clashed after a plane with political messages like, “Justice for Baluchistan” and “Help end disappearances in Pakistan” flew over the cricket ground. It’s noteworthy that after Pakistan’s recent victory against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup Super 4 match, clashes broke out between the fans of the two countries. The Sharjah Stadium was also reportedly vandalised by fans during this. To sum it up, while Afghanistan and Pakistan cricket fans brawled during the Asia Cup 2022 cricket match, this video does not show that.
