  • Fact Check: Shocking video of man throwing goats from moving truck is NOT from Pakistan India Today found that the viral video is from Maharashtra's Nashik. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This incident happened in Maharashtra’s Nashik. However, the exact date of the incident could not be determined. A shocking video of a person throwing goats from a moving truck has been widely shared on social media. The video was captured by somebody driving behind the truck. After chucking several goats onto the road, the man could be seen climbing down to the bonnet of a car that had pulled up behind the truck. A person could be heard saying, “This is how they steal.” Those sharing it claimed it was from Pakistan and that the man in the video was stealing goats. A Twitter user wrote, “This video of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan clearly shows that Pakistan is a country of savages and there are a large number of savages who exist all over the world, especially in Western countries. How can you understand that Pakistani Muslims can be human beings? Innocent goats.” The archived version of this tweet can be seen here. Some people also claimed that the video was from the Kanpur-Unnao highway and from Gujarat’s Surat. India Today found that the viral video was from Maharashtra’s Nashik. Our Probe We noticed “Aurangabad” written on a green road sign visible in the viral video. These road signs are a common feature on Indian highways. We also noticed that reacting to a Twitter post which claims this video to be from the Kanpur-Lucknow highway, a person wrote that this incident happened in Maharashtra. The Unnao Police also said in its response to the same tweet that this incident took place on Maharashtra’s Igatpuri Ghoti road. Igatpuri is a town located in the Nashik district in Maharashtra, and Ghoti is a village in the same district. So, contacted India Today’s Nashik correspondent Pravin Thakare, who confirmed that this video was indeed from Nashik. He also sent us an image from the same location. On comparing it with the viral video, we found many similarities. These included the green-coloured road sign, a small board with “PUC” written on it, and a triangular traffic sign. We were also able to geo-locate the exact location seen in the video. It can be seen below. Thakare also told us that this incident was not recent and had possibly happened a few months ago. Assistant Police Inspector Dilip Khedkar of the Ghoti police station told India Today that while he was aware of this incident, nobody had yet filed a complaint. He also could not pinpoint a date for the video. Thus, it’s abundantly clear that the video is not from Pakistan at all. [Update: After this story was published, the Ghoti police registered an FIR against unknown persons for the goat theft seen in the video] Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
