  • In reality, this rather unusual video shows the flight of the Soyuz-2.1a space rocket with the Progress MS-29 cargo ship, launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. What we see in the footage is a «space jellyfish» — an atmospheric phenomenon associated with the launch of space rockets. Users on social networks are massively sharing a video that allegedly shows the Oreshnik ballistic missile «during the attack on Dnipro». In reality, the video being shared shows the flight of the Soyuz-2.1a space rocket, launched on November 21 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome with the Progress MS-29 cargo ship. The original video can be found on social media. Moreover, another proof that the video shows a space rocket, and not a ballistic one, is the «space jellyfish» — a characteristic trail in the sky. This atmospheric phenomenon is explained by the reflection of light from the missile’s exhaust gases, which are partially scattered in the atmosphere before dawn or after sunset. Observation is possible when the Sun does not yet/no longer illuminate the Earth’s surface, but its rays fall on the inversion trail from the rocket at a high altitude. As a reminder, on November 21, Russia fired a ballistic missile at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, which, according to Putin, is a new Russian development called «Oreshnik». Russian sources used this video to maximize the propaganda effect of intimidation from the launch of a ballistic missile. Previously, StopFake refuted a fake video about NASA creating artificial clouds and a fake video allegedly depicting a Houthi attack on 4 US and British warships.
