  • Fact Check: An Old Picture From Australia Misleadingly Shared As Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral post claiming to be from Prayagraj was misleading. An old picture from Australia has been falsely attributed to Prayagraj, creating confusion. By: Ashish Maharishi - Published: Feb 19, 2025 at 10:09 AM - New Delhi (Vishvas News). Amidst the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, a picture is going viral on social media, showing the moon aligning with some planets. Some users are sharing this picture, claiming it to be from Prayagraj. Vishvas News investigated the viral claim and found it to be fake. The image has been available on the internet since 2022 and is reportedly from Australia. What is going viral? Facebook user ‘Akhilesh Patel’ uploaded a video on February 17, 2025 with the caption, “Rare divine shadow image taken late at night at Prayagraj. A wonderful sight. About an hour before sunrise: Saturn, Mars, Venus, Jupiter and crescent moon. Millions of salutations to these planets. The Maha Kumbh Mela is associated with this rare planetary parade. For the first time in 144 years, Jupiter, Saturn, Sun and Moon are seen lined up together in a single line on January 29 in Pushya nakshatra. What a great example of Indian astronomy and astrology. Om Namo Bhagvate Narayana Om Namo Namah.” You can see its archived version here. Investigation Vishvas News conducted a reverse image search using the Google Lens tool and found this picture on many social media platforms. It was uploaded on Reddit on January 25, 2025, and was claimed to be from Scotland. Further investigation led us to a Facebook page named ‘Cosmic Intelligence-Agency’, where the image was posted on May 1, 2022. The caption stated that the picture was taken in Perth, Australia, showing Saturn, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and the waning crescent moon just before sunrise on April 28, 2022. The image was credited to Rain Thielen. Continuing the investigation, we reviewed the Instagram handle of Rain Thielen and found the original picture posted on April 28, 2022. The location was mentioned as Drakesbrook Weir, Australia. Vishvas News continued its investigation and contacted Rakesh Pandey, editorial in-charge of Dainik Jagran, Prayagraj. He confirmed that no such astronomical event has occurred in Prayagraj. Lastly, we investigated a user named Vivechan Gautam, who shared the viral image and found that the user is from Haryana and has over six thousand followers. Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral post claiming to be from Prayagraj was misleading. An old picture from Australia has been falsely attributed to Prayagraj, creating confusion. Claim Review : A breathtaking celestial view captured late at night in Prayagraj!
