Claim :The video shows a giraffe stopping in front of a camera and posing in front of it, while other giraffes are walking forward. Fact :The viral video does not show real giraffes but is a scene from an animated video A video of a herd of giraffes passing by a CCTV camera, while one of them stops to strike a pose in front of the camera, is viral on social media. The video makes the claim: ‘Giraffe posing for the camera’. People adoring the cute giraffe for the pose is being shared virally. The video is shared as a reel on Facebook too. The video has been in circulation for a long time. Fact Check: The video does not show real giraffes. The claim is false. When we searched using the extracted key frames from the video, we found a longer version of the viral video, published on June 28, 2013. At 0.22 seconds, the names on the video state that, it is a film by Nicolas Deveaux. Taking a cue from this, when we searched for Nicolas Deveaux, we found the same video shared on a YouTube channel named Animatic, with the title “5 meters 80 – Elegance – Animated short film by Nicolas Deveaux – France CGI 3D”. The description states that a herd of giraffes embarks on a series of high-flying acrobatic dives in a deserted Olympic swimming pool. The Vimeo page Cube Creative uploaded the same video on January 31, 2013, with the title ‘5 meters 80’. The description states “Short film by Nicolas Deveaux / 2012. "A herd of giraffes embarks on a series of high-flying acrobatic dives in a deserted Olympic swimming pool." Produced in Stereoscopic-3D by Cube Creative Productions and Orange, with the support of Arte, Ville de Paris, and CNC. © Cube Creative Productions. Therefore, the video showing the giraffe posing for the camera does not show the original giraffes but is an animation created by animation director Nicolas Deveaux. The claim is false.
