| - In the days following President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 election, an X post (archived) that received more than 3.4 million views and 53,000 likes, as of this writing, claimed Vice President-elect JD Vance will be the first Catholic U.S. vice president.
(X account @catholicpat)
In the replies, the post's creator, Patrick Neve — a self-described comedian turned theologian — wrote: "'But what abou–' I said what I said," apparently in response to comments countering this claim by pointing out that President Joe Biden was the first Catholic U.S. vice president.
We looked into the claim, and found that while Vance converted to Catholicism in adulthood, Biden indeed became the first Catholic vice president when he took office alongside then-President Barack Obama in 2009. In 2021, Biden became the second Catholic president, after former President John F. Kennedy.
Because Biden was the first Catholic vice president, we rate this claim false.
