  • Fact Check: This video doesn't show Palestinian influencer Mr FAFO abandoning Gaza for Qatar India Today found that the viral video is from January 2023. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video shows Al-Jafarawi's January 2023 Qatar trip via Egypt, months before the ongoing conflict began. As the Israel-Gaza conflict continues to unfold, a video featuring Saleh Al-Jafarawi, a well-known Palestinian Instagram influencer and activist, known for documenting Israel siege of Gaza, has gone viral. Those sharing the viral video claimed that Al-Jafarawi, known as “Mr FAFO”, is currently in Qatar, “living his best life”. Some alluded to his connections with Hamas. And some also accused Al-Jafarawi of being part of “Pallywood”, a derogatory term referring to an alleged industry of staging or play-acting scenes of violence and repression of Palestinians to gain global sympathy. An X user shared the video, stating, "He's done it again! Mr. Pallywood (aka #MrFAFO) has turned up in...Qatar. After posing in a dozen different jobs, adopting all the orphans in Gaza, dying and coming back to life more times than I can count, he is now living his best life in Qatar.” The archived version of this post can be seen here. India Today found that the viral video shows Saleh Aljafarawi’s January 2023 trip to Qatar via Eqypt — months before the current Israel-Gaza conflict that began on October 7. OUR PROBE Conducting a reverse image search, we found an extended version of the video, uploaded to Aljafarawi’s YouTube channel on January 22, 2023. The description accompanying the video reads in Arabic, “The action and the adventures begin. Today I am in Qatar for a very big reason for me.” The video documents Jafarawi’s trip to Qatar via Egypt. In a previous video, he explained the procedure he underwent to cross to the Egyptian side through the Rafah crossing. Notably, Al-Jafarawi has been continually documenting Israeli bombings and life in Gaza since the war's onset. His social media accounts affirm his presence in his home country. Thus, it’s clear that the viral video is being shared with misleading claims that Saleh Al-Jafarawi is in Qatar during the ongoing war.
