Video from June, 2024 shared out of context.
While most exit polls predicted a clear majority for the Congress in the Haryana Assembly Polls, the party managed to come only second to the incumbent BJP, by bagging 37 of the 90 seats, as opposed to the saffron party’s 48 seats.
Following the announcement of the results, a video purportedly showing Haryana Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda in tears is going viral on social media platforms.
Multiple X and Facebook users shared the video with hashtags such as “#HaryanaElectionResult, #Haryana,” expressing solidarity with Hooda, insinuating that the footage shows his reaction to the poll loss. Newschecker, however, found the video to be old and unrelated to the recent assembly elections.

Fact Check/Verification
A Google lens search on the keyframes of the viral footage led us to an X post by @Radhey_307, dated June 5, 2024. Carrying the same video, it stated, “Deepender Hooda lost 2019 with just 5000 votes but he kept working on ground and now won with 3,50,000 margin. He is in tears, emotionally charged. This man deserves all the happiness.”
We found multiple X and Facebook posts from June 2024 carrying the viral footage of Hooda after he won the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat. Such posts can be seen here, here, here and here. Notably, X user @Albert_1789 who shared the video on October 8 linking it to the Haryana Assembly Poll results, had also posted the same footage on June 5, 2024.

In a clearer version of the video, posted on Facebook on June 5, 2024, we spotted “INDIA” displayed on a TV screen. Notably, the Congress was a part of the INDIA – a coalition of the opposition parties formed during the 2024 Lok Sabha Polls.
We also found a report by DNA Hindi, dated June 5, 2024, also featured a screenshot of the viral footage, and stated that Deepender Singh Hooda was seen in tears after winning the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat by over 3 lakh votes.

Hence, an old video has been shared out of context to show Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda in tears after the party lost Haryana Assembly Polls.
