We did the fact check and termed it as false. The Claim As per a Facebook reel, one can get rid of spectacles within 60 days with herbal eye drops. The short video promotes a natural remedy for eye problem. Fact Check Why do we need eye glasses? We need glasses mainly because of refractive errors in our eyes, which can cause blurry vision. These errors include myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia or hypermetropia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia (poor vision due to advancing age). Glasses correct these refractive errors by adjusting the way light enters our eyes, allowing for clearer vision. They bend light rays such that it compensates for the imperfections in our eye’s shape or the focusing mechanism. Hence, glasses act as optical aids, providing a clearer and sharper vision for those with visual impairments. Is it true that herbal eye drops can help to get rid of eye glasses? No, herbal eye drops cannot help you get rid of eye glasses. The claim suggesting herbal eye drops as a universal remedy to eliminate the need for eye glasses within a fixed timeframe, such as 60 days, is deceptive. This claim does not acknowledge the diverse nature of vision-related issues and overlooks key factors that influence eye health. Firstly, the idea of relying solely on herbal eye drops as a home remedy to remove spectacles oversimplifies the complexities of vision correction. Vision problems, ranging from myopia to presbyopia, stem from various underlying factors. These include genetics, lifestyle, and age-related changes. We checked with Dr Sahebaan Sabharwal Sethi Ophthalmologist, Arunodaya Deseret Eye Hospital, Gurugram, regarding the widespread use of home remedies to remove spectacles. She says, “Herbal eye drops cannot help you get rid of spectacles. Eye glass number comes as a result of the size of the eyeball and the shape of the cornea which cannot be altered by any eye drop. On the other hand, acidic or extremely alkaline ingredients in herbal remedies can alter the normal pH of the eye and cause serious injuries or dryness.” We also checked with Ophthalmologist Dr Isha Agarwalla for her opinion on ‘natural remedies for eye problems’. She says, “Herbal remedies claiming to cure cataracts and other eye ailments are proliferating, but beware: they’re often completely false. While some herbs may have minor benefits for eye health, they’re no match for proven medical treatments. Trusting in these unverified remedies could delay proper care and exacerbate conditions. Always consult with qualified medical professionals for accurate diagnosis and treatment options.” Is there any medicine to remove spectacles? Unfortunately, no. Because eye health is pretty complicated, home remedies to remove spectacles usually don’t help. That’s why many people with eyesight issues go for contact lenses or glasses. If you want to get rid of your eye glasses, laser eye surgery is the main and only option available. Can I get my eyesight back to normal at home naturally? No, that is not possible. It is important to understand that we cannot correct our eyesight without any professional help.
