This video is from Berhampur in Odisha. The incident happened on April 3, 2023.
A CCTV footage that’s going viral shows two women and a child on a scooter being chased by a pack of stray dogs. The woman driving the scooter was seen losing control and hitting a parked car in the process. The video contained the text: “Gandhi Nagar 7th Lane”.
Sharing the video on Twitter, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma tagged Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi, asking her to look into the matter. However, the same video was also shared on Facebook, with some pages claiming that the incident occurred in Gandhi Nagar in Jammu. The archived version of Varma’s post can be seen here.
India Today investigated the video and found that it was from Odisha and not Hyderabad or Jammu.
Our Probe
We reverse-searched frames from the viral clip and found the video shared by multiple media organisations including NDTV, Hindustan Times and the Indian Express.
As per these reports published on April 4, the video was from Gandhi Nagar in Berhampur, Odisha. Reportedly, both the women and the child sustained multiple injuries. The same video was also shared by ANI on April 4 with the same details.
The incident was also reported by local media from Odisha. According to these reports, the accident happened on April 3. The fact-checking unit of the Telangana government also tweeted that the video is from Odisha and not from Hyderabad.
It is hence clear that the incident was from Berhampur in Odisha and not from Hyderabad or Jammu.
