This video is from a train that runs between Patna and New Delhi. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from a train that runs between Patna and New Delhi. The incident is not related to Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu police have so far registered 11 cases and arrested three persons for spreading rumours that migrant workers were not safe or were under attack in the state. Disconcerting news about the safety of migrant workers in Tamil Nadu has been circulating on social media for the last few weeks. The Director General of Tamil Nadu Police said that the workers were called back by their families due to the panic created by miscreants. Amid this chaos, on March 8, a Twitter account by the name of Sintu Tiwari shared a video where a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) can be seen scolding and manhandling a young man for not possessing a ticket. He pulls the man’s ears and tries striking him in the head. After reprimanding the passenger, TTE allegedly collected a fine from him. While sharing the video, it was claimed that the young man was a Bihari migrant trying to flee Tamil Nadu and was attacked for travelling without a ticket. The archived version of the post can be seen here. India Today’s fact check team found that the video does not show migrant workers fleeing Tamil Nadu. This video is from a train that runs between Patna and New Delhi. The train doesn’t pass through any station in Tamil Nadu. AFWA Probe In the viral clip, a man can be heard saying “Sampoorna Kranti Express”. We then performed a keyword search for the train. It runs between Rajendra Nagar in Patna and New Delhi. We reached out to Birendra Kumar, the Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway for his clarification on the viral claim. The officer confirmed to us that the video is from the Sampoorna Kranti Express and not related to Tamil Nadu. Kumar said, “This incident occurred a few days back inside the Sampoorna Kranti Express, in the Danapur division. The TTE is under suspension pending enquiry for manhandling a passenger who was travelling without a ticket.” Danapur division comes under the East Central Railway headquartered in Bihar. Responding to the viral post, the official Twitter handle of the Danapur railway division also clarified that the concerned TTE has been suspended for harassing a passenger inside the Sampoorna Kranti Express. Thus, it is clear that the video does not show Bihari migrant workers trying to flee Tamil Nadu. Over the past week, India Today’s fact check team has debunked several false claims about Bihari or Hindi-speaking migrants being ill-treated in Tamil Nadu. Some of them can be seen here.
