The Claim
The WhatsApp message sent to us on our tipline number by a reader claims in Hindi that 2-3 drops of Homeopathy medicine Carbo Vegetabilis can help in increasing the Oxygen levels in the body. Loosely translated, the message reads, “Important Notice. There is news going on all the NEWS CHANNELS of the country for few days … Lack of OXYGEN … You all will be watching … Nothing to fear … Whichever brother has difficulty in breathing or is nervous !!! Put two or three drops of Carbo Vegetabilis 30 or 200 (Homeopathy medicine) on your tongue and then see the result..This medicine is called oxygen cylinder in homeopathy..It fulfills the amount of oxygen in the body …. A medicine Every homeopathy is at the store … the brother who has trouble breathing …. homeopathic oxygen cylinder (CARBO VEG.) Can keep his house … will see you.”

What is Carbo Vegetabilis? What is it used for?
Carbo Vegetabilis is a Homeopathy medicine that is prescribed for wide range of symptoms including congestion in veins, intestinal infection, vomiting, headache and diarrhoea.
Can Carbo Vegetabilis help in increasing Oxygen levels in body for COVID patients?
No. The PIB Fact Check team had already announced this to be a Fake Claim.
Another false social media post is claiming that coughing can be used as CPR during a heart attack.
Homeopathy’s efficacy in improving oxygen levels should be assessed alongside other health practices and guidelines. Additionally, ensure you’re informed about reliable sources, as misinformation about medical protocols can lead to misunderstandings
We further reached out to Dr. Harleen Kaur, Central Council Of Homoeopathy (CCRH) about the claim. She says, “Using Carbo Vegetabilis will not hurt fur sure. But it cannot be a solution for acute Oxygen deprivation. But, it is not a substitute for Oxygen. In any case, self-medication must be avoided. One should consult with their homeopathic physician for their problems to be treated properly.”
The website of CCRH also has a similar explanation, “‘Medicines like Phosphorus, Chelidonium, Veratrum Viride, Iodum, Camphora, Cinchona officinalis, Lycopodium, Ars.iod., Antim ars., Stannum met, Carbo veg., can be prescribed basis the symptomatic indication’. And they should be taken the approval of authorities and willingness of the patient/guardian”
