A post shared on Facebook purports a military tribunal convicted Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel of murder caused by the company’s COVID-19 vaccine. Verdict: False The claim stems from a satirical website. There is no evidence suggesting a military tribunal convicted Bancel of murder. Fact Check: Bancel was knighted in France back in May as a result of his efforts in stopping the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Fierce Pharma. Bancel also said he would donate around $355 million in after-tax proceeds from his Moderna stock to charity, Forbes reported. The Facebook post purports a military tribunal led by the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps convicted Bancel of murder over 32 service member COVID-19 vaccine-related deaths. Bancel is set to be executed by hanging on Nov. 18 at Guantanamo Bay, also according to the post. The claim is false. There are no credible news reports suggesting a military tribunal has convicted Bancel of murder. Likewise, neither the U.S. Navy JAG nor Moderna have mentioned the purported claim on their respective websites or verified social media accounts. The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) also has not publicly commented on the claim. “This is misinformation,” U.S. Navy JAG spokesperson Patricia Babb said of the purported claim in an email to Check Your Fact. A keyword search reveals the claim stems from a Nov. 15 article published on the website “Real Raw News.” A disclaimer included on the website’s “About Us” page indicates it contains “humor, parody, and satire.” (RELATED: Did The Military Find Pesticides In Moderna’s COVID-19 Vaccines?) Check Your Fact has also contacted a Moderna spokesperson for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. This claim appears to be a follow up of a previous story from the outlet falsely claiming the CEO had been arrested.
