A video showing a man blowing the Shankh (conch shell) for over two minutes on a decorated platform near a river is going viral on social media platforms, with users claiming it to be from the inaugural ceremony of the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
The three-minute footage has been widely circulated on Facebook, X with users claiming it to show visuals from the Kumbhmela’s inaugural function. The video has been shared on YouTube as well.

Fact Check/Verification
On carefully analysing the viral clip, we noticed the watermark of ‘VK News’ on the top right corner of the screen. We also spotted President Droupadi Murmu and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the viral footage.
Taking a clue, we looked up keywords “President Droupadi Murmu” and “Shankh” on the official YouTube channel of VK News, which yielded a post from February 13, 2023. It carried the same video of a man blowing a conch shell, stating it to be from Varanasi.
Subsequent investigation led us to a video live streamed on the official YouTube channel of the President of India on February 13, 2023, titled ‘President Droupadi Murmu attends Ganga Aarti at Varanasi.’

Around 17:54 minutes into the footage, we found the viral clip that is being shared to show the inaugural ceremony of the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.
During her visit to Varanasi in February 2023, President Murmu reportedly offered prayers at Kaal Bhairav and Kashi Vishwanath temples and also took part in Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Multiple outlets such as this, this and this reported on the President’s visit to Varanasi. However, none of these mention any world record being created during the same.
Visuals from her visit were also shared on the Facebook page of Ganga Seva Nidhi, a body that organises the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. The page also featured multiple videos of the priests blowing conch shells for durations as long as over five minutes.

Conclusion
Hence, an old video from Varanasi has been falsely shared to show a man creating a world record by blowing a Shankh for over 2 minutes during the inauguration of Mahakumbh.
