Users are sharing the video with claims that Maulana Masood Azhar, the chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed and India’s most wanted terrorist, was killed in the reported blast in Pakistan. Upon investigation, Vishvas News discovered that the viral video is from an explosion that occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, in November 2023, and not from a recent incident. Additionally, there is no official confirmation regarding the death of the terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar. What’s Going Viral? While sharing the viral post (archive link), the Facebook user wrote, “Most wanted terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar was returning from Bhawalpur Mosque in Pakistan. He was killed in the blast. I will tell you later why he was killed.” Vishvas News Investigation Starting our investigation, Vishvas News commenced by searching for keyframes within the viral video using Google Lens. In the course of this search, we discovered that the video had been uploaded on Europe Cognizant’s X (Twitter) handle on November 4, 2023. According to the information provided, the blast occurred on that date, targeting a police vehicle in Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in 6 fatalities and 25 injuries. Taking our investigation further, we found relevant news on the TRT website published on November 3, 2023. According to the news report, an explosion had occurred near a police van at the tank base in Dera Ismail Khan. The police stated that 5 individuals lost their lives, and 20 sustained injuries, subsequently being transported to the hospital. Initial information suggested that the incident involved the targeting of a police van. Further details were obtained from Voice of America Urdu, which reported, “Civilians are said to have been casualties in the explosion at the tank base of DI Khan, with police and other security officials also among the injured.” According to the information given in Tribune.pk website, “On Friday, 6 people were killed in a bomb blast targeting the police in Dera Ismail Khan city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rescue and police officials say that according to initial investigation, a motorcycle packed with explosives was used in the blast. The age of those who died in the blast was between 15 and 20 years”. Ali Wazir, leader of Pakistan’s South Waziristan, has shared pictures and the same viral video of meeting the people injured in the blast on his X (Twitter) handle. Continuing our investigation, we tried to find out the truth behind the death of terrorist Masood Azhar. During our search, we did not find any reliable news or official announcement confirming this. We contacted Pakistani journalist Adil Ali to confirm the claims in the viral video. Denying the claims he said, “The video is old.” During social scanning of the Facebook user who shared the fake post, we found that the user has 1,900 followers. Conclusion: Vishvas News in its investigation found that the video going viral is of the explosion that took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan in November 2023, and not of a recent incident.
