  • Fact Check: This video does not show French policeman body-slamming woman on road The claim that this video is related to recent protests in France against President Macron's pension reforms is false. We tracked down the incident to Texas, US. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The incident is not from France. It shows a violent brawl outside a nightclub in Texas in the US. A horrifying video of a man dressed as a security officer picking and bodyslamming a woman on the pavement has gone viral on social media. Many social media users have linked the incident to the ongoing French protests against President Emmanuel Macron's pension reform. One person, while sharing the video, wrote, "A French policeman gallantly throws a woman on the pavement with a deflection. (footage is a few days old). And believe me, no one in the West will wring their hands picturesquely, saying that peaceful protesters are offended, these ‘democratic’ policemen can do anything." The archived version of the tweet can be seen here. India Today found that the violent video is not from France. It was shot during a brawl that broke out outside a nightclub in Texas in the US. Our Probe A reverse image search of keyframes of the viral video led us to a few other tweets containing the complete video. The video shows a brawl between two women, thrashing each other on the road, outside a shopping plaza. On careful examination of the video, signboards of a few eateries can be seen. Among them are Subway, K&K Donuts, and Sushi Seven. We then searched for Sushi Seven on Google Maps. The search brought us three results: two in Mexico and one in the US. One by one, we searched all three outlets on Google Maps. The Google Images pinned with the Sushi Seven outlet at UTSA Boulevard Suite 104, San Antonio, Texas 78249, United States, matched the visuals seen in the viral video. On further zooming in on Google Maps, we could also locate Subway and K&K Donuts present on the same lane. Taking this clue, we performed a keyword search using the phrases "Sushi Seven", "security", "woman slammed on road", and "UTSA Boulevard Suite 104, San Antonio". The search produced a bunch of news reports covering the incident. A news report by the San Antonio Current published on April 4, 2023, described it as a brawl between two women outside "Privat Social Club", located at UTSA Boulevard in Northwest San Antonio. During the brawl, one private security officer employed by the nightclub bodyslammed the woman to the ground. Another report noted that two officers of "Precision Defence Group", a security company that provided security to the club, were trying to stop six fights outside Privat Social Club and UTSA Boulevard after closing. A news report by Fox West Texas suggests that there have been many instances of drunken behaviour, burglary, assault, and gun violence in the area since November 2022. Thus, the claim that this video is related to recent protests in France against Macron's pension reforms is false. It was shot during a brawl outside a nightclub in Texas, US.
