  • Fact Check: This video DOES NOT show Muslims disrupting 'Devshila Yatra' to Ayodhya Ram temple A video of Muslim men chanting "Allahu Akbar" from inside a gate has gone viral on social media, with the claim that the Muslim men were attempting to disrupt the "Devshila Yatra" to Ayodhya. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from an April 2022 incident that took place in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. Tension broke out between Hindus and Muslims during the Hanuman Sobha Yatra. Two massive Shaligram stones from Nepal’s Janakpur reached Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on February 2 after a week-long road journey. These stones will be used to carve the idols that will be placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple there. Following this, a video showing a group of Muslim men chanting “Allahu Akbar” from inside a gate has been circulated on social media. A Hindu possession can be seen on the main road. Police and special forces can be seen trying to block the Muslim group. Allegedly, the Muslim men were trying to disrupt the “Devshila Yatra” to Ayodhya. The same video was also shared by multiple people who claimed that it showed Muslim men trying to disrupt a Hindu rally in Maharashtra. The archived version of the posts can be seen here and here. AFWA found that the video in question is neither related to the “Devshila Yatra”, nor from Maharashtra. It’s from an April 2022 incident in Andhra Pradesh. AFWA Probe A reverse search of the viral video’s keyframes led us to multiple media reports from April 2022 where screenshots from the same clip were used. As per these reports, the video was from the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. According to News18, this video was shot during a Hanuman Sobha Yatra on April 24, 2022, in Nellore. At the time, the BJP’s state co-in-charge Sunil Deodhar alleged that stones were pelted at the rally from inside a mosque. However, as per media reports, the Andhra Police denied allegations of stone pelting. According to police, when the yatra crossed a mosque, the Hindu group increased the volume of their loudspeakers and slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” were chanted. People inside the mosque reportedly retaliated by chanting “Allahu Akbar”. The Quint quoted Superintendent of Nellore Police Ch Vijayao Rao saying, "At one point, they crossed a mosque. When it reached the mosque, the DJ was made a little louder and bike horns were made. Slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' were chanted. The youth inside the mosque also said 'Allahu Akbar'. Except for that, there was no throwing of stones or bottles and no clashes. No such instances happened." Rao added that the rally concluded peacefully without any untoward incident. Per India Today, taking note of the sloganeering, the administration called a peace meeting of both groups. The authorities also warned them not to repeat the incident in the future. It is hence clear that the video in question is almost a year old and from Andhra Pradesh. It has nothing to do with either the “Devshila Yatra” to Ayodhya or any Hindu rally in Maharashtra.
