Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be misleading. Mohammad Shami was awarded Arjuna Award not recently, but in January 2024. Therefore, the viral picture is old. Facebook user ‘Aashik Smart’ shared the viral picture with the caption, “Mohammad Sami got the Arjun Award, who will watch it today? He deserves the recognition. If he were from another community, he would have received much more attention. Let’s give a like to the real hero of the country. Love my India!” You can see the archive link of the post here: To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google reverse image search and found the viral photo on Mohammed Shami’s verified Instagram account, uploaded on January 10, 2024. Mohammed Shami had shared many other photos as well along with it. We also found a related piece of news on Dainik Jagran’s website, published on January 10, 2024. According to the information provided, CM Yogi Adityanath has congratulated Mohammed Shami on receiving the Arjuna Award. During the investigation, we found the video of the Arjun Award ceremony on the official YouTube channel of Prasar Bharati Sports, uploaded on January 9, 2024. In the video, Mohammed Shami receives the Arjuna Award from President Draupadi Murmu. Other news reports related to the viral photo can be seen here: We reached out to Dainik Jagran’s sports editor Abhishek Tripathi for information and he confirmed that Mohammed Shami was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in January 2024. Finally, we reviewed the Facebook account of the user who shared the post. The user has around 7000 followers and identifies as a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
