  • Fact Check: Another day, another Mukesh Ambani deepfake selling a get-rich-quick scheme In the video, Ambani can be seen persuading people to follow his student Veenit on social media to get free-of-cost investment advice. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This is a deepfake video. A video of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani advising people about a get-rich-quick scheme has been making the rounds on social media. In the video, India’s and Asia’s richest man can be seen persuading people to follow his “student” Veenit on social media to get free-of-cost investment advice for wealth multiplication. A Facebook user shared the video and wrote, “Benefits are coming! Could ‘it’ be the next high-growth stock to soar 200%? Get free daily access to high-growth stocks! Hungry for high returns? We provide real-time trading advice and free stock information.” Its archive can be seen here. India Today found that this video is a deepfake. OUR PROBE A quick reverse search of the viral video keyframes led us to a December 30, 2022, report by Business Today that featured a snippet of Mukesh Ambani’s speech on the 90th birth anniversary of Reliance India Limited founder Dhirubhai Ambani. As per the report, this video was recorded on December 28, 2022. In the video, Ambani can be seen wearing the same outfits as in the viral clip and standing against the same backdrop. We also found the video of the entire speech which can be seen below. In it, nowhere did Ambani mention his “student” Veenit or any of the contents of the viral clip. Additionally, in the viral clip, we observed several irregularities in Ambani’s lip movement. This made it clear that the 2022 video was digitally altered to create the viral clip. THE CURIOUS CASE OF VEENIT The viral clip featured a photo of the man referred to as Veenit. A reverse image search of the photo led us to a Money Control report about Nitin Bhasin, the co-head of Institutional Equities, and the head of equity research at Ambit Capital. We noticed that Bhasin’s photo was used in the viral clip, but his face had been altered. We didn’t find the source of the man’s face in the viral clip. Last year, India Today debunked a similar deepfake video featuring Mukesh Ambani. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
