  • Fact Check: Video of Pakistani market falsely linked to UK goes viral India Today Fact Check found that the viral video actually shows Resham Bazaar in Sindh, Pakistan. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is unrelated to Bradford but instead shows Resham Bazar in Sindh, Pakistan. In Short - Viral videos of women in burqas linked to European immigration - Video is from Resham Bazaar in Sindh in Pakistan and not from Bradford - Extended version of video on YouTube confirms it is from Pakistan A video of a local market scene with women in burqas and Urdu signage outside shops is viral on social media. Many social media users linked this video to increasing immigration in Europe. One user on X while sharing the video wrote, “The British city of Bradford is completely unrecognizable due to mass immigration. The picture is the same in many other European cities. Mass immigration is absolutely one of the greatest crimes against European people and civilization.” An archived version of the post can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that the video has nothing to do with the British city of Bradford; rather it shows Resham Bazaar in Sindh, Pakistan. OUR PROBE Responding to the viral post, some users believed it to be true and criticised the British government, while others identified the location as a suburb in Pakistan. The video opens with a glimpse of a shop named “Sakhi Jewellers”. We carried out relevant keyword searches, which led us to an extended version of the viral clip on YouTube, uploaded on Feb 10, 2022. The description of the video clearly states its setting as Resham Bazaar in Hyderabad city of Pakistan. This historic marketplace stretches over two kilometres and is considered one of the longest in Asia. The 400-year-old market extends from Pakka Fort to Market Tower. The viral segment features in the beginning at the 0:07 minute mark. It features several distinct landmarks that can be seen in other videos of the Resham market, confirming its Pakistani origin.
