  • FACT CHECK: Did The Denver Broncos Recently Sign Colin Kaepernick? An image shared on Facebook claims the Denver Broncos recently signed former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Verdict: False There is no evidence the Broncos have signed Kaepernick. Neither the NFL team nor Kaepernick have announced such a thing at the time of publication. Fact Check: The image shows a photo of Kaepernick and the logo for the Denver Broncos, along with text that reads, “BREAKING: Broncos Signing Colin Kaepernick.” Facebook and Instagram users shared the meme widely on Nov. 28, a day before the Broncos played the New Orleans Saints, and have continued to shared it since then. Broncos quarterbacks Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel, as well as practice squad quarterback Blake Bortles, were ineligible to play Sunday against the Saints after being placed on the COVID-19/restricted list, according to The Associated Press. Lock, Rypien and Bortles were disqualified due not wearing masks around each other before Driskel tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, ESPN reported. The seeming lack of available quarterbacks sparked inaccurate rumors that the Broncos had signed Kaepernick. No national media outlets have reported about the Broncos signing the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback. The Broncos have also not put out a press release announcing such a thing, nor has Kaepernick posted about it on his Twitter account. The NFL’s COVID-19 protocols would also have prevented Kaepernick from playing in the game against the Saints if the Broncos had signed him for that reason, further adding to the post’s dubiousness. Newly acquired players must self-isolate for six days before joining their new team, according to NBC Sports. (RELATED: Did Tim Tebow Kneel During The National Anthem To Protest Against Abortion?) The Broncos ultimately lost to the Saints 31-3 on Sunday. Kendall Hilton, a practice squad wide receiver, filled in as quarterback, going 1-9 for 13 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions, according to ESPN.
