  • FACT CHECK: Did YouTube Ban ‘Sound Of Freedom’ Clips Due To ‘Discrimination Against Minor-Attracted Persons?’ A post shared on Twitter purports YouTube has banned clips of the recent film, “Sound of Freedom,” due to its alleged “discrimination against pedophiles and minor-attracted persons (MAPs).” YouTube BANS ‘Sound of Freedom’ Clips Due to ‘Discrimination Against MAPs https://t.co/a5Plo0eNLj — HoneyWest25 (@HoneyWest25x) July 22, 2023 Verdict: False The claim stems from a July 19 article published by “The People’s Voice,” a website that is known for spreading “fake news.” A spokesperson for Angel Studios, the studio that produced the film, said they are aware of reports indicating reviews of the film are purportedly being censored on YouTube in an email to Check Your Fact. Fact Check: The recent film, “Sound of Freedom,” has made $100 million at the box office after being in theaters for three weeks, according to Forbes. The film stars actor Jim Caviezel and highlights child trafficking, Deadline reported. “YouTube BANS ‘Sound of Freedom’ Clips Due to ‘Discrimination Against MAPs,” the Twitter post purports. The claim is false, however. The claim stems from a July 19 article published by the website “The People’s Voice.” A “Liability Disclaimer” included on the site’s “Terms of Use” page indicates it “makes no representations about the suitability, reliability, availability, timeliness, and accuracy of the information, software, products, services and related graphics contained on the site for any purpose.” The site, which has previously been known as “NewsPunch” and “YourNewsWire,” is described as “one of the most well-known purveyors of fake news online,” according to a 2019 article from Mashable. (RELATED: Is AMC Using Air Conditioner Issues To Prevent People From Seeing ‘Sound Of Freedom?’) The article claims YouTube purportedly banned clips of the recent film because it had “violated [the platform’s] community guidelines” by “discriminating against pedophiles and MAPs.” Check Your Fact reviewed YouTube’s community guidelines, and there is no mention of a policy about discriminating against pedophiles or MAPs, as the article suggests. In addition, there are no recent credible news reports indicating the platform banned clips of the recent film. Angel Studios, the studio that produced the film, also has not publicly commented on the purported claim. Angel Studios spokesperson Matthew Faraci said the studio is aware of reports claiming reviews of ‘Sound of Freedom’ are purportedly being censored on YouTube in an email to Check Your Fact. “We are aware of widespread reports that movie reviews of ‘Sound of Freedom’ are being censored on YouTube. Angel Studios is deeply concerned about this, and we’re investigating the matter,” Faraci said. Check Your Fact has also contacted YouTube for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
