In the viral video, Prime Minister Modi can be heard saying, “Vote for India”. Social media users are sharing the video that is falsely claiming that Prime Minister Modi is seeking votes for the opposition alliance known as ‘INDIA’ which stands for Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. Vishvas News fact-checked the viral video and found that this is from 2013 which proves that Prime Minister Modi was not seeking votes for the recently formed opposition alliance INDIA and was rather referring to the country. What’s in the viral post? The viral video was shared on Facebook by user ‘Rajesh Kumar’, who wrote, “Modi ji sought votes for India Alliance”. Investigation: To fact-check this post, we took out the screen grabs of the viral video and searched them on Google Reverse Image. We found this full video uploaded on Aaj Tak news channel’s YouTube channel on December 22, 2013. The video’s description read, “‘Vote for India’ is the slogan of the 2014 elections: Modi.” Upon reviewing the full video, it became clear that in his speech, Prime Minister Modi urged people to vote for the progress of the country. We also found the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel of news channel News X on December 22, 2013, with the description, “In 2014 elections, vote for the country, not for a single party, says Modi. ‘Vote for India’ the crowd started chanting after Modi as he carried on with his speech.” We reached out to BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar, who confirmed that the viral clip is from an old video. What is the INDIA alliance? The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance or INDIA is a major political alliance consisting of 26 political parties in India. It is led by the Indian National Congress and was founded on July 18, 2023. In the final phase of our investigation, Vishvas News scanned the profile of Facebook user ‘Rajesh Kumar’ who shared the viral post. The user is from Bihar and has more than 5,000 followers. Conclusion: Vishvas News, in its fact-check, found that this video is from 2013.
