  • Last Updated on August 29, 2024 by Nivedita Quick take A YouTube video titled “15 Reasons Why Apples are Incredibly Beneficial for Your Health” says that apples prevent Parkinson’s disease. However, after rigorously conducting a comprehensive fact-checking process, experts have determined that this assertion is predominantly inaccurate. The claim A highly popular video on YouTube highlights numerous advantages of apples. Among these benefits, one claim asserts that apples aid in the prevention of Parkinson’s disease. This video has garnered an impressive 27,000 views. Fact Check Can Parkinson’s disease be cured? There is no cure for Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement and is due to the loss of dopamine-producing cells in the brain. While there are treatments to manage the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and improve quality of life, these treatments do not give a definitive cure to reverse the underlying degeneration of brain cells. However, as of now, a complete cure for Parkinson’s disease is not yet possible. Can parkinson’s disease be managed? Certainly, managing Parkinson’s disease is achievable, even though a definitive cure for the condition remains elusive. Medications, exercise, therapies like physical and occupational therapy, and in some cases, deep brain stimulation can help control symptoms and improve quality of life for individuals with Parkinson’s. Does eating apples help prevent Parkinson’s disease? While research has suggested that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, including apples, might have potential benefits for overall health, there is no conclusive evidence to support that eating apples alone can prevent Parkinson’s disease. Apples are a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, and fibre, which can contribute to overall health and potentially reduce the risk of certain diseases. Antioxidants help protect cells from oxidative stress, and plays a role in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease. However, we need more evidence to establish a direct link between apple consumption and Parkinson’s disease prevention. Does diet play a crucial role in the management of parkinson’s? Yes, diet can play a role in the management of Parkinson’s disease. While it won’t cure the condition, a balanced diet can have a positive impact on symptom management and overall well-being. Indeed, certain studies propose that embracing a diet abundant in antioxidants—comprising fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and proteins—may potentially diminish oxidative stress within the brain. Nabaruna Ganguly, Clinical dietician at D. S. Research Centre for Cancer, says, “While apples aren’t a cure for Parkinson’s, they offer a holistic approach to nutrition. The vitamins and phytonutrients in apples can contribute to overall well-being and potentially play a role in managing symptoms.” Another post also claims that eating apples helps fight asthma.
