Quick Take
A video on social media claims to show a real argument between a flight attendant and a transgender person on a plane about pronouns. We fact-checked and found the claim to be false. Our research shows that the video was actually a funny skit made by a comedian.
The Claim
A video on Instagram portrayed an argument between a flight attendant and a passenger who identifies as transgender. The dispute in the video appears to revolve around the use of pronouns for the passenger. The person who appears to be a flight attendant argues that the passenger cannot be considered a man due to flight records indicating a female seat reservation, while the passenger firmly maintains his identity.

Fact Check
Is it true that the video shows an argument between the trans person and the flight attendant?
No, the video is not authentic. The video’s own caption hints at its potential lack of authenticity.
During our investigation, we conducted a Google reverse image search on a few keyframes from the video and successfully found the original video that the claimed Instagram post was taken from. The complete version of this video was shared by a comedian named Jibrizy on his Facebook page. Within the comments section of this Facebook video, Jibrizy explicitly mentioned that the video is merely a funny skit he created. Furthermore, at the end of the video, Jibrizy invites viewers to share their opinions. We could also see two other actors on camera, as evident in the screenshot provided below.
Jibrizy’s Facebook page introduction states, ‘I’m a director making conversational topic videos that feel real. 😃,’ indicating that the content on the page is intended for entertainment purposes and is not a representation of actual events.
This recent incident highlights the need for careful scrutiny of videos depicting LGBTQ+ interactions. For further insights into similar narratives, the discussion around a supposed LGBT parade in Spain provides additional context about how public events are portrayed in media.
Similar to this claim, we have come across several inconsistent claims gaining thousands of likes in social media videos before. In a previous case, we debunked a video claiming that vaccines remove proteins from the body. In another instance, we refuted a claim suggesting that one could perform CPR simply by watching social media videos. Furthermore, we’ve come across yet another assertion that asserts video games provide an accurate portrayal of cardiac surgery procedures.
