  • FACT CHECK: Did Donald Trump Announce That He Will Not Be Running For President in 2024? A video shared on Facebook purports former President Donald Trump will not be running for president in 2024 following the results of the midterm elections. Verdict: False The video shows MSNBC coverage of the 2022 midterm elections. Trump recently announced his campaign for the 2024 presidential election. Fact Check: Republicans in congress were concerned following rumors that Trump would announce his 2024 election bid following disappointing midterm election results, according to CNN. Former Vice President Mike Pence criticized the former president, adding he believed the party would “have better choices,” The New York Times reported. The Facebook post purports Trump has announced the cancellation of his 2024 presidential campaign after midterm results. The thumbnail features former Vice President Mike Pence and Trump with a “Breaking News” chyron. “‘TRUMP STOPS THE CAMPAIGN,'” the title reads. “Pence laughs at Trump over ‘2024 run’ cancelation after ‘midterm’ result.” The video’s caption is inaccurate. The footage shows MSNBC coverage of the 2022 midterm elections. The first clip is from a press conference held by President Joe Biden on Nov. 9. Trump formally announced his candidacy for President Nov. 15 in an announcement from his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, according to NPR. A Federal Elections Commission filing for Trump’s campaign was also made public shortly before his announcement. There are no credible news reports suggesting the former president has cancelled or withdrawn his potential 2024 run.
