  • Fact Check: People boarding plane in chains are not Indian immigrants in USA The US deported 104 illegal Indian immigrants on a military flight to Amritsar amid Trump’s crackdown on illegal Claim : Viral video shows Indian Immigrants being deported from the USA in shackles and chainsFact : Viral video does not show Indian Immigrants in deportationThe US deported 104 illegal Indian immigrants on a military flight to Amritsar amid Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. The deportees, including women and children, faced horrifying journeys and financial losses. The deportees were primarily from Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, and a few other Indian states. They were sent back to their hometowns after completing the necessary formalities at the airport. These passengers included 19 women and 13 minors. Meanwhile, a video showing people walking into a military airplane with chained hands and legs and wearing masks on their faces is in circulation on social media, especially X, claiming that these are Indian migrants who were deported from the United States. The video is in circulation with the claim in Hindi: “मुंह पर मास्क, हाथों में हथकड़ी और पैरों में बेड़ियां इतनी बेदर्दी भारतीयों को अमेरिका से निकाला जा रहा..!! यह दृश्य अमेरिका में भारतीयों के साथ हो रहे दुर्व्यवहार और अन्याय को दर्शाता है..!! यह महत्वपूर्ण है कि हम इस मुद्दे पर भारत सरकार ध्यान दे और आवश्यक कार्रवाई करें..!!” When translated, it claims: “Indians are being expelled from America so mercilessly with masks on their faces, handcuffs on their hands, and shackles on their feet. This scene shows the abuse and injustice being done to Indians in America..!! It is important that we get the attention of the Indian Government on this issue and take necessary action..!! Here is the archived link to the claim. Fact Check: The claim is False. The video does not show Indian migrants being deported from America, it shows the deportation of immigrants to Guatemala and Mexico. When we extracted keyframes from the viral video, we found that the video was a few days old, and showed the deportation of illegal immigrants to countries like Columbia and Guatemala by plane. CNBC-e shared a longer video with the title ‘Trump has begun sending illegal immigrants to countries like Colombia and Guatemala by plane’. American news channel WKYC channel shared the longer version of the video with the caption “Immigrant deportation flights take off on military aircraft from Fort Bliss, Texas”. The video added a description “The DOD has released video showing what it calls "a group of illegal aliens" being loaded onto a C-17 Globemaster III at Fort Bliss, Texas on January 23rd for a deportation flight. Nearly 1,200 people were arrested in just one day on Sunday as immigration enforcement operations continue to take place in cities across the United States.” Therefore, the viral video in circulation does not show Indian immigrants being deported from the USA chained in shackles. It shows the deportation of immigrants to Guatemala, Columbia. The claim is False.
