President Droupadi Murmu conferred Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour on PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh, and MS Swaminathan, Karpoori Thakur, at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The award ceremony was attended by several dignitaries from different political parties including Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, Congress President Kharge, etc.
An image of the award ceremony where President Murmu is seen conferring former Prime Minister late PV Narasimha Rao with the award, is in circulation with the claim that Congress president Kharge was not clapping for the announcement as AICC former president Sonia Gandhi did not have a good relationship with the former Prime Minister. President Murmu presented the award to PV Prabhakar Rao, son of PV Narasimha Rao.
Many social media users can be seen sharing the image with captions like “Wondering why @kharge is not clapping for the Bharat Ratna award conferred to P.V.Narsimha Rao while everyone in the front row is clapping. Fear of Dynasty”
Fact check:
The claim is False. The Congress president was seen applauding during presentation of the award to PV Narasimha Rao’s son.
When we searched the image using Google reverse image search, we found that the image was also shared on the X (Twitter ) account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the caption: “Every Indian cherishes what PV Narasimha Rao Garu has done for our nation and feels proud that he has been conferred the Bharat Ratna. He worked extensively to further our country's progress and modernization. He is also known as a respected scholar and thinker. His contributions will forever be cherished.”
We also found a video shared by the X account of the President of India “Live: President Droupadi Murmu presents Bharat Ratna awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan”
Another video uploaded by DD News also shows Mallikarjun Kharge clapping as the late Prime minister’s son PV Prabhakar Rao walks ahead to receive the award.
A video published by YouTube by The Economic Times with the title ‘Former Prime Minister of India PV Narasimha Rao Conferred with Bharat Ratna award, posthumously’. The video also shows Kharge clapping during the award ceremony.

Hence, the claim that Congress President Mallikharjun Kharge did not applaud PV Narasimha Rao’s son, during the presentation of the Bharat Ratna award to the former Prime Minister is False. The leader was seen clapping during the ceremony.
