Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district from Gujarat on March 12. Subsequently, there was a Congress rally in Nashik on March 14, which included Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders.
Now, a video of a huge crowd allegedly from the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Maharashtra is being shared online. An X user wrote, “Tsunami of the crowd at Rahul Gandhi's Nyay Yatra in Nashik today. Lakhs & lakhs of people are joining his Yatra but media won't show this.” Its archive can be seen here.
India Today Fact Check found that the video is from December 2022 and shows Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Dausa, Rajasthan.
OUR PROBE
We performed a reverse search on screengrabs of the viral video. This led us to the same video uploaded to Rajasthan’s Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s X account on December 16, 2022. The post reads: “As the Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Dausa on its 100th day, the response and participation of the people was overwhelming.” Dausa is the political stronghold of Sachin Pilot. At the time, many accounts associated with the Congress party also shared the video with similar information.
We compared this video and the viral one and noted several similarities, including shop signages, motor vehicles, and posters on the road.
We searched for media coverage of the event and found several such reports published in December 2022. As per ABP news, Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Rajasthan’s Dausa on December 15, 2022. There, he listened to the local farmers' problems.
We also found a Navbharat Times video report uploaded to YouTube in December 2022, which contained screengrabs from the viral video. As per the report, the Bharat Jodo Yatra reached Dausa in Rajasthan on its 100th day, Where a huge crowd gave a grand welcome to Rahul Gandhi.
We tried to look for videos of Gandhi's recent Nashik visit during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. We found a live stream ( https://www.youtube.com/live/aFkEv08iKUE?si=higoFM68Oe60jgkX ) on Gandhi's official YouTube account from March 14. While a large number of people gathered for the rally, it appeared smaller compared to the viral video. Also, we did not find any similarities between this video to the viral video.
Thus, it's more than clear that a 2022 video from Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan was falsely shared as his recent rally in Nashik, Maharashtra.
