  • STORY UPDATED: check for updates below. Does video from the campaign rally where former President Donald Trump was shot show Janeen DiGuiseppi of the FBI? No, that's not true: The woman in the video is not DiGuiseppi, the FBI said. The FBI told Lead Stories that DiGuiseppi, assistant director of the Insider Threat Office at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., was not at the rally. The claim appeared in a post (archived here) on TikTok on July 19, 2024. The post included footage from the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a caption that read: So we are now getting more info the woman in the pic behind Trump didn't flinch when the shots came instead started recording Trump we now know she is Janeen Diguiseppi assistant Director to the FBI! Repost the hell out of it! This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing: (Source: TikTok screenshot taken on Fri Jul 19 15:39:37 2024 UTC) Lead Stories contacted the FBI to ask about the claim. FBI spokespeople said DiGuiseppi was not at the rally and was not in Pennsylvania on the day of the shooting. A spokesperson wrote in an email dated July 19, 2024: The person is not her, she was not there, and the claims are categorically false. Later on July 19, 2024, the FBI released a longer statement, which read, in part: To be clear, the person depicted is not her and she did not attend the rally. The men and women of the FBI work tirelessly and selflessly to protect others every day, and false rumors and conspiracy theories targeting these dedicated public servants are reprehensible and irresponsible. They are also dangerous and often lead to threats against them and their families. The FBI will continue to work with our partners to hold accountable anyone who makes violent threats against them or any of our colleagues in law enforcement. The woman in the video is wearing a hat and sunglasses, obscuring much of her face. She's in the crowd behind Trump. After the sound of shots ring out, she's seen holding up her phone, appearing to film what was happening. Lead Stories has debunked a number of false claims related to the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt on Trump. A collection of those fact checks can be found here.
