  • FACT CHECK: Did Scotland Begin Accepting Refugees From Gaza? A video shared on social media purportedly that Scotland is currently accepting refugees from Gaza. 🚨FOOTAGE – SCOTLAND ACCEPTS PALESTINIAN REFUGEES pic.twitter.com/Fso5In6cYB — Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) October 19, 2023 Verdict: Misleading The claim is inaccurate. While the first minister of Scotland declared they were “willing” to take in refugees, such a change in immigration policy has to be done through British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Fact Check: President Joe Biden announced he has requested a $106 billion bill for support for both Ukraine and Israel from Congress, Reuters reported. The bill also allocates money to secure the southern U.S. border. The Twitter post shared a video from the First Minister of Scotland saying that he wants Scotland to accept refugees from Gaza. The text overlay of the video reads, “Scotland is ready to offer sanctuary to refugees from Gaza.” The caption misleads by suggesting this is currently occurring, “FOOTAGE – SCOTLAND ACCEPTS PALESTINIAN REFUGEES.” This caption is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests Scotland is currently taking refugees. Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf has announced that he is willing to take refugees. His statement was claiming that the world should offer sanctuary to refugees and that Scotland is ready to accept them, saying, “Scotland is willing to be the first country in the UK to offer safety and sanctuary to those who are caught up in these terrible attacks.” The people of Gaza are a proud people. Many don’t want to leave, and shouldn’t have to. But for those displaced, who want to leave, there should be a worldwide refugee scheme. Scotland is willing to be a place of sanctuary and be the first country to take those refugees. pic.twitter.com/5RbZpJsGHX — Humza Yousaf (@HumzaYousaf) October 18, 2023 Scotland does have an independent governance. However, it is not able to make this decision without permission from Sunak, according to Business Today. In his video, Yousaf urged Sunak to agree to allow refugees to enter the U.K. Sunak has yet to confirm any refugee plan. He did meet with Israeli leaders to show support for the state of Israel in their conflict with Hamas, The New York Times reported. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that Qatar threatened to stop gas supplies to the world if the bombing in Gaza does not stop. Note: Check Your Fact is worki
