Adeel Ahmed confirmed to AFWA that he did not file any petition in the Supreme Court against 'Gadar 2'. Also, the film’s release date has not been announced yet.
Bollywood, off late, has been facing backlash from audiences. And in retaliation, several actors have spoken up against this supposed boycott. Amid all this, social media has been seeing a large number of posts in support of "Gadar 2". And these posts have been accompanied by some questionable claims.
"Gadar 2" is the official sequel of "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha" released in 2001. While extending support to the upcoming movie that will supposedly be released on September 8, several people claimed that a lawyer named Adeel Ahmed had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to ban the film’s release citing that it may hurt Muslim sentiments.

Archived versions of these posts can be seen here and here.
AFWA's investigation found that Adeel Ahmed did not file any petition in the apex court to ban "Gadar 2". At the same time, the film’s release date has not been announced yet.
AFWA Probe
With the help of a keyword search, we first looked for the release date of "Gadar 2". However, we did not find any report stating it will release on September 8. An October 2021 report in The Hindu mentioned that the film will be produced by Zee Studios and Anil Sharma Production.
Subsequent searches took us to the motion poster of this movie that was shared on the official YouTube channel of Zee Studios on October 15, 2021. The video revealed that Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, the son of the film’s director Anil Sharma will play significant roles in it.
However, we did not see any mention of an official release date either in the caption or description. It was only mentioned that the film will hit theatres in 2022.
Last April, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed in his tweet that the shooting of “Gadar 2” was 80 per cent done.

Has there been a petition to ban 'Gadar 2'?
When we searched for this, we came across a Times of India report from August 2, 2001. Per this report, the screening of “Gadar” was challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Courts because it was "violative of Sikh tenets." Apart from that, we did not find any news reports supporting the claim.
We then reached out to Supreme Court advocate Adeel Ahmed. Ahmed dismissed these rumours and said that he was a “big fan” of Sunny Deol and the film “Gadar”. He also sent a clarification video to AFWA that can be seen below.
Therefore, it is clear that no such petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to ban the release of “Gadar 2”.
