| - On the third evening of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, an X account posted a video that depicted attendees covering their ears as protestors read out the names of children killed in Gaza outside the convention center. The post has amassed more than 6.9 million views, as of this writing.
The same account also posted the video to its TikTok and YouTube channels, where it gained more than 475,000 combined views, as of this writing.
We looked into the claim and found that the video does not appear anywhere on the internet prior to Aug. 21, 2024, and it does not appear to be AI-generated or otherwise digitally manipulated. We ran several frames of the video through AI-detection software Hive, which found them unlikely to be AI-generated.
The account that posted the video, BreakThrough News, says in its bio that it covers "people's movements and global politics." On the organization's website, it specifies:
BreakThrough News is a nonprofit media and educational organization dedicated to independent, fact-based reporting and commentary on a diverse range of issues affecting the global movements for social justice. We are a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the United States.
To remain free of bias and preserve our editorial independence, we accept no corporate donations or state funding. Our funding derives from our viewers, supporters, and foundations that share our mission.
Several of the people shown in the video wore badges on lanyards that are a visual match to those captured in photos available on Getty Images: proof that the attendees were indeed from the 2024 DNC.

News outlet Middle East Eye also reported on the video. "Some delegates and attendees acknowledged the chants, showing their support," the article read. "Others pressed their fingers to their ears or pulled out signs showing that they supported Israel."
We reached out to BreakThrough News seeking further information about the video, and will update this story accordingly if we receive a response.
