New Delhi (Vishvas News). Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the US, an infographic has been circulating on social media, claiming that US President Donald Trump stated in Modi’s presence that he won the elections in India through EVM ‘fraud’.
Vishvas News’ investigation found this claim to be false. During Modi’s US visit, a joint press conference was held with US President Donald Trump, but at no point did Trump make any statement alleging that Modi won elections through EVM ‘fraud’.
What is viral?
Social media user ‘Amit Gahlawat’ shared the viral post with the caption, “Trump said that Modi won the election by cheating in EVMs.”
Several other users across various social media platforms have shared it in the same context.
Investigation
Recently PM Modi visited the US, where he met Trump.
According to news reports, during this visit, the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including energy, education, trade, technology, AI, and space.
Following their meeting, a joint press conference was held, and videos of which are present in many news reports.
Throughout the press conference, Trump did not accuse PM Modi of winning the elections through EVM ‘fraud’.
The White House has released the full transcript of this joint press conference held on February 13, 2025, and there is no mention of the viral claim anywhere.
During our investigation, we found several reports stating that Trump expressed support for ballot paper voting in response to a question asked during this press conference.
Trump supported the use of paper ballots for elections while responding to a question about the possibility of potential interference by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the 2020 US elections and the last year’s elections in India. However, he did not make any remark about India’s election process and its results.
To verify the viral video, we contacted senior TV correspondent (senior editor) Madhurendra Kumar, who covers international affairs. He confirmed that during the joint press conference between Trump and Modi, Trump did not mention anything about India’s election process or EVM ‘fraud’.
