India Today Fact Check
This is a scripted video created for training aviation students by an institute in Nagpur.
A video allegedly showing a heated argument between two inside an aeroplane has been widely shared on social media. In the video, a young girl repeatedly pushes her seat backwards. This annoys an old man seated behind her, who then questions her upbringing. This infuriates the girl’s father, who warns the old man that he has no right to speak that way. A cabin crew member in the meanwhile tries to intervene.
An X user shared the clip and wrote, “Not giving good sanskar to child and then behave like a cultured man. Very bad behaviour with senior citizens. He should be punished.” Another person wrote: “Indian airlines slowly becoming Indian railways.” The archived version of one such post can be seen here.
India Today found that this video was staged. It was created for educating aviation students by an institute in Nagpur.
Our Probe
We noticed several people reacting to the viral post, saying that it was staged and that it showed a flight crew training video. We also noticed that the air hostess in the video wore an ID card with “Fly High Institute” written on its ribbon.
Getting a clue from here, we ran a keyword search and found the viral video on the YouTube channel of Fly High Institute. It was shared in a three-part-series.
The first part’s description noted, “As discussed and witnessed in the previous videos, the handicapped, children (babies, toddlers, kids, and teens) and senior citizens need a watchful eye from the cabin crew. An understanding of basic psychology of kids and senior citizens is required,” adding, “As seen in the video, rash behaviour of kids and short tempers of senior citizens can be really volatile, and the retaliation by the kid's father is adding fuel to the fire.”
The second part contained the viral video. Its description ended with, “Stay tuned for the third part!” Generally, this style is used in the context of scripted videos.
As per the official website of the Fly High Institute, it is an institution located in Maharashtra’s Nagpur which offers training in aviation, hospitality, travel, and tourism management.
Videos similar to the viral one can be seen on the social media accounts of the Fly High Institute.
To sum it up, a scripted video created for educating aviation students is being falsely interpreted by people as an actual brawl inside an aeroplane.
