  • Fact Check: US President Biden DIDN'T fall asleep while meeting Israeli President, clipped video goes viral The viral clip ends a moment before Biden looks up from his notes as he continues speaking to Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The viral video is edited. In the original video shared by various news outlets, Biden could be seen reading from a note kept on his lap. Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visited the United States on July 18 and met President Joe Biden. Following this, many shared a video of the meeting, claiming that Biden fell asleep in front of his Israeli counterpart. Sharing the short clip on Twitter, one person wrote, “News Alert: Joe Biden falls asleep a moment ago in the middle of an important meeting at the White House. Can you believe this?” Others also shared the video with similar allegations. India Today found that the video was clipped to make it look that way. In reality, Biden was reading from a document on his lap. Our Probe A keyword search on YouTube led us to the official YouTube channel of CBS News, where we found the longer version of the viral video titled “President Biden meets with Israeli President Isaac Herzog”, shared on July 19, 2023. In it, we observed that while talking to his Israeli counterpart, Biden placed a note on his lap. Later he read from that note with his head down. At the 1-minute-18-second mark, we found the viral clip. The US President could be seen and heard reading the note. He said, "We opened up Air Space for Israel over Saudi Arabia and Oman after I had a little visit there and we brought Israelis and Palestinians together at a political level. Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday." After that, Biden looked up from the notes and spoke with Herzog again. On the website of C-SPAN, the nonprofit TV network that televises proceedings of the United States federal government and other public affairs programming, we found the same shared on July 18, 2023, with the same information. The video was also uploaded to the official YouTube channel of the Associated Press. Thus, it is clear that US President Joe Biden did not fall asleep during the meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in the White House.
