  • Fact Check: Israel troops heading to Iran? Nope, this is GTA V India Today Fact Check found that this video is footage from a modded version of the video game Grand Theft Auto V. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This is footage from a modded version of the video game Grand Theft Auto V. As the Israel-Lebanon conflict continues, a video now going viral purports to show Israel preparing to strike Iran. The video shows a convoy of military vehicles — armoured cars, trucks, and tanks — darting through meandering roads. Israeli flags are visible on the side of the road at one point. Text inside the video reads: “Israel getting ready for Iran.” India Today Fact Check found that this video was made in a modded or modified version of Grand Theft Auto V, a video game. It doesn’t show a real military convoy. OUR PROBE A closer look at the viral video raised suspicions that the footage was animated. The watermark “Diar Gaming” can be seen in the video. Based on this clue, we found a Facebook account named Diar Gaming. According to the information on the Facebook page, the page belongs to Omar Abdullah Mohiuddin, a gaming video creator from Ebril in Iraq. This viral video was shared on this account on September 9. However, this post contained no information about what video game it was from. A keyword search based on the available clues led to the discovery of many gaming videos related to the Israeli army. On a YouTube channel called “Game Loverz”, we found the laterally inverted or mirrored version of the viral video shared on August 2. The video was titled “Irani Fighter Jets, Tanks & Helicopter Attack on Israeli Army Tanks Convoy | Iran Israel War - GTA 5”. According to the information provided on the channel, this YouTube account belongs to Adnan Majeed, who lists their location as Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The account’s bio states: “In this channel you can know all about GTA V. I am playing only GTA V and only share GTA V videos with you.” This channel featured several other similar GTA V videos, one of which was titled “Iran Attack on Israel Army Convoy | Israel Moving Tanks to Gaza - GTA 5”. Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 open-world action-adventure game. The game has been modded or modified or customised by various gamers over the years. Mod services like FiveM and 5MODS are often used by players. It’s noteworthy that video game videos have been falsely shared as war footage in the past as well. You can read our fact-checks of those here, here, and here. Thus, it's clear that the viral video does not show a real Israeli military convoy.
