  • FACT CHECK: Video Of Jews Burning Israeli Flag Is From 2019 A video shared on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, purports to show Jews recently burning the Israeli flag amid the country’s current conflict with Hamas. Jews burn aggressive Israel’s flag in rejection of the war pic.twitter.com/tipEDNU9ub — Essraa AL-Shatnawi (@EssraaShatnawi) October 15, 2023 Verdict: False The video predates the current conflict and stems from a 2019 A Haber article, which indicates ultra-Orthodox Jews burned the Israeli flag following the death of an Ethiopian-Jewish teen by the police. Fact Check: Bolivia has cut diplomatic ties with Israel over the country’s attacks on the Gaza Strip amid its ongoing conflict with Hamas, according to Reuters. In addition, Bolivia, along with neighboring countries Chile and Colombia, called for a ceasefire, the outlet reported. “Jews burn aggressive Israel’s flag in rejection of the war,” the X video’s caption purports. In the video, a group of Orthodox Jews can be seen chanting as they burn an Israeli flag. The video has been viewed over 200 times as of writing. The video is neither recent nor linked to the current Israel-Hamas conflict, however. The video predates the current conflict and stems from a 2019 A Haber article, which indicates ultra-Orthodox Jews burned the Israeli flag following the death of an Ethiopian-Jewish teen by the police. The outlet identified the teen as Solomon Tekah, reporting that he had purportedly been killed by an off-duty police officer in Kiryat Haim. The Times of Israel also covered the incident, with a supposed eyewitness stating the officer “was not under threat” when he allegedly shot Tekah. According to the outlet, the officer claimed he was trying to break up a street fight when “three youths hurled stones at him.” An investigation into the incident was set to take place. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports suggesting Jews recently burned the Israeli flag in protest of the current Israel-Hamas conflict. In addition, the Israeli Police have not publicly commented on the purported claim. (RELATED: Did Hamas Fighters Pretend To Be Dead?) Check Your Fact has contacted the Israeli Police for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
