A video showing American actor and film producer Robert De Niro swearing at United States President Donald Trump on a stage is going viral online.
Users sharing the visuals are claiming that this incident happened recently while Niro was presenting at the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on 2 March.
How did we find out the truth?: We performed a relevant keyword search on Google, which led us to several reports from 2018.
Reports by The Guardian , NBC News, Vox, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter stated that Niro won a standing ovation at Tony awards for "attacking the president" by abusing him.
These reports were dated 11 June 2018.
The Guardian report carried the video and stated, "Appearing on stage at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, De Niro declared: "___ Trump". As the applauding audience rose to their feet, De Niro continued: ‘It’s no longer down with Trump".
There are no recent reports about De Niro making a similar speech at the 97th Academy Awards.
Conclusion: A video of Robert De Niro swearing at Donald Trump at 2018 Tony awards is being falsely linked to 97th Academy Awards.
