New Delhi (Vishvas News): Many videos related to train accidents are going viral on social. Vishvas News has already exposed the truth of many such videos. Now a video is being shared claiming to show a train accident in Gujarat, where 350 people died and 580 passengers were injured. The video shows a derailed train with, the engine and coaches overturned.
Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral claim is misleading and no such train accident has happened in Gujarat recently. The viral video is of a train accident e in Jharkhand in July 2024, in which two passengers lost their lives.
What Is In The Viral Post
Thread user ‘rajesh_pandit_06’ shared the video (archived link) on February 11, with the caption,
“A huge accident in Gujarat, 350 people died, 580 were injured, share it, the whole train overturned”
Investigation
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we took a screenshot of the video and conducted a Google Lens search. This led us to a related news report on the website of Avenue Mail., published on July 30, 2024, and includes a picture of the train accident. According to the report, the Howrah-CSMT Mumbai Mail derailed near Barabamboo station of Chakradharpur division on July 30, resulting in the cancellation of several trains.
Analysing the picture in the news and the screenshot of the viral video, it is clear that both pictures depict the same train accident.
A video clip of the train accident can be seen in a news report uploaded on Money Control’s YouTube channel on July 30, 2024. According to the report, the Howrah-CSMT Express derailed near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand and two people died in the accident.
Related video news can also be seen on ANI’s YouTube channel, uploaded on July 30, 2024.
Next, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. On December 24, 2024, the wheels of a non-passenger coach of the Dadar-Porbandar Saurashtra Express derailed in Kim, Gujarat. However, no casualties were reported in this incident.
We did not find any report supporting the claim that 350 people lost their lives in a recent train accident in Gujarat. For further verification, we contacted Jeevan Kapuria, Associate Editor at Gujarati Dainik Jagran, who confirmed that no such accident had occurred here and the viral video was also not from Gujarat.
Finally, we scanned the profile of the thread user who shared the video with the false claim and discovered that the user has 100 followers.
Conclusion: No recent train accident has happened in Gujarat. An old video of a train accident in Jharkhand is being falsely shared with misleading claims.
