Fact Check
A thorough investigation by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that the video does not depict a recent event or a Hindu individual being burned in Bangladesh. The video, in fact, dates back at least six years and originates from a Halloween celebration in China.
During the investigation, a YouTube video titled“Halloween Party at Chimelong Ocean Park | Zhuhai, China | SviatMe“ was identified on the channel SviatMe. Published on October 27, 2018, the frames from the 5-minute-25-second mark onward match the widely circulated video. The video features scenes from a Halloween party in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, China.
It is worth noting that Halloween (source), a popular festival originating in Western countries, has now become a global celebration. On this day, people often dress in spooky costumes and participate in various themed activities.
Furthermore, an Instagram video (source) published on October 31, 2018, by the user ‘galaxychimelong’ shows a similar scene, featuring an individual dressed in Halloween attire. The location was tagged as Guangdong, China.
The same Instagram account also shared additional videos, photos, and posts from the Halloween party on the same day, identifying Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Hengqin, Zhuhai, China, as the location.
A relevant keyword search also led to a 2020 report (source) on the Chinese-language website Sinchew, which clarified that the video, previously misrepresented as being from Nigeria, actually originates from a Halloween party in China.
Several international fact-checking reports (source) have verified that the video has been repeatedly misused to spread false claims. Notably, the video originates from China, and the burning object, which appears to resemble a human, is not real.
Conclusion
The widely circulated video, falsely claimed to depict a recent incident of a Hindu individual being burned in Bangladesh, is actually footage from an old Halloween celebration in China. The claim is entirely baseless and false.
