  • FACT CHECK: Did Adam Schiff Admit He Will ‘Scrub’ Evidence In The Jan. 6 Riot? A post shared on Facebook purports California Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff has said he will “scrub” evidence regarding the events surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot. Verdict: Misleading Schiff did not admit to tampering with evidence. He was alluding to personal information that should be removed to protect people’s safety. Fact Check: The founder of the Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, was convicted Nov. 29 of seditious conspiracy but acquitted of two other conspiracy charges, according to the Associated Press. Rhodes is facing up to 20 years behind bars following his conviction, the outlet reported. The Facebook post purports Schiff will destroy evidence before the new Republican led House of Representative can see the information. There is no attribution to where or when this was said. “Adam Schiff said the Jan. 6 committee will ‘scrub’ evidence before the Republicans take control of the House next year,” the post reads. “While we know there is no way to disband the committee at this time—until the new House is in place—there need to be lawsuits filed and evidence preserved and 14,000 hours of tape should be under lock and key and then released under the new House leadership. Otherwise, the evidence and the tape will go the way of Hillary’s emails.” The claim is inaccurate. The comments are taken out of context from a recent CNN interview, in which Schiff was asked about the Jan 6 committee report that is expected to be released soon. The California congressman said that the evidence will be made public along with the Committee’s report. He did say that to protect some of the people involved there they would hide some of their personal information. “We’ll have to make sure to scrub that evidence for personal identifiable information,” Schiff told CNN. “That the evidence we provide protects people’s security.” There is no credible news report that supports the claim that Schiff admitted to illegally hiding evidence from the Republican leadership in the House. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Ted Cruz Saying He Has Documents That Would Implicate Adam Schiff?) Statements made by public figures are often taken out of context by social media users. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim that the Director of the World Health Organization said the COVID-19 vaccine kills children.
